Every woman loves a beautifully organized space and most of us share a love-hate relationship with keeping a clutter-free closet. Closet organization is quite challenging with our busy schedules, picking and dumping clothes from time to time, mountain of unworn clothes and shoes, and the inability to maximize wardrobe space.

If your closet looks extra messy, you might want to consider tips to create a clean and stylish space for your clothes and accessories.

For a well-organized closet, effort is required. You’ve procrastinated long enough, get to work!

Below are 10 easy tips for organizing the closet.

Declutter Clothes you don’t wear often

Too much stuff is the enemy of a well-organized closet. The first step to closet organization is to edit and ditch clothing items that you haven’t worn in a long time

The rule is to “Keep what you love, donate, and part ways with what you rarely use”. To sort your existing closet items, remove everything in the closet and create three bags.

One labeled “Keep” – For clothes and accessories that are useful to you. Examples are new clothes, clothing items you love, and clothes you wear often.

Another labeled “Donate” – For clothing items that are still valuable but haven’t been worn in a long time.

The last bag is labeled “Ditch”- For ruined items or items with no value.

Once decluttering is done, organizing becomes less overwhelming.

Clean your Closet

After removing everything from the closet and separating existing items into different bags, proper cleaning of the closet is required. Dirt and dust can accumulate on items in the wardrobe and shelves. If not properly cleaned, they end up causing damage to your clothes, shoes, and accessories. Sprinkle your closet with baking soda, wipe clean with a damp cloth, and allow to dry.

For an Overflowing closet, consider rotating clothes

If after decluttering, the closet still looks full, the best hack is to store some items in a box or bag and rotate them to free up space.

Different clothing items are needed for different seasons. Thick coats and jackets, knitwear, and other winter outfit are changed to dresses, tops, and light wears during spring or summer.

You can also rotate clothes by size. For example, maternity clothes for pregnant women. Once the pregnancy journey is over, other clothes will fill the closet

Fill open bags or baskets with easy-to-grab items

Save some space for storage baskets in your closet. Accessories such as scarves, glasses, and belts are thrown in small or medium-sized baskets.

Clothing items like undergarments, stockings, leggings, and round necks are kept in open baskets and bags.

These storage solutions are proven to make dressing much easier.

Invest in matching hangers

Matching hangers make the closet more streamlined and organized. Get hangers of the same color so the clothes can be visible. Another tip is to hang pieces that go together, it’s easier to pick an outfit when getting dressed.

Create zones for your clothes for easy access

There are so many disadvantages to an overflowing closet. Some clothes can remain untouched in the closet for a long time. However, when clothing items are grouped based on garment type, it creates visibility and accessibility.

Separate your casual and formal wears. Keep like with like: skirts, dresses, tops, and blazers.

Make use of shoe shelves

As a general organizing rule, I like to keep clothes and clothing items off the floor. A good place to store shoes is a shoe shelf or shoe rack

It is aesthetically pleasing to organize shoes by type. For example, keeping all heels together, all sneakers together, all flats together, all boots together, etc.

Add decor to wall shelves

When it comes to decorating shelves, there are so many options to explore: Wall art, photographs, plants, and decorative antiques. Get creative with different decorating ideas that capture and conjure happy memories.

Use your space wisely with hooks and rods

Adding a hook to your wall is one of the simplest ways to maximize closet space. Scarves, belts, and hats are kept on hooks. Whether you have a small space or a walk-in closet, you can double your amount of storage by adding extra rods and hooks. Clothes are hung on rods to create more space and visibility.

The clothing rod is a perfect place to hang your ironed shirts, suits, and formal outfits.

Find a home for your bags

Handbags require proper storage to keep them looking good.

Bags with chain and fabric straps are hung on doors or wall hooks.

A DIY purse shelf for fashion purses, structured bags sits pretty on wall shelves.

When you purchase a new purse or bag, it often comes in a dust bag to protect it from dirt and dust. It is best to store it in its dust bag and hang it anywhere.

In conclusion, having a tidy closet is a game-changer in our house. With these closet organization ideas, you can say goodbye to clutter.
